Pitting Spotify Against Rdio, Rdio's Library Comes Out on Top [Streaming Music]

Pitting Spotify Against Rdio, Rdio's Library Comes Out on TopThe big draw of streaming music services is the promise of endless music libraries, which makes it all the more frustrating when you can't find an album or artist you love on the service you've signed up for. Writing for Wired, Andy Baio searches Spotify's and Rdio's respective APIs against this list of the top 5,000 albums to see which service comes out on top when it comes to music people love.

In a pretty clear end result, Rdio comes out on top in a big way. As Baio puts it, "Unless you're a huge fan of Norwegian death metal, it's hard to see this as anything but a win for Rdio." Browsing through the artists and albums available on Rdio but missing on Spotify (and vice versa), it's hard to see it any other way. Baio does point out that the Rate Your Music list he uses does skew old, and he's planning to run a deeper analysis using the Billboard top 100 from 1955 to now.

As an early and sometimes dissatisfied Spotify user, Baio's results have me rethinking my choice. How about you?
