THE COLONY, Texas (CBS Houston) ? A North Texas woman induced labor early so her dying husband could get to hold his baby daughter.
According to WFAA-TV, Diane Aulger gave birth two weeks early so her husband Mark could see their baby girl before he died.
Mark Aulger?s lungs deteriorated rapidly from chemotherapy after battling colon cancer. Doctors gave him days to live after he was admitted to the hospital last month.
?It was basically like his lungs were soaked in concrete,? Diane Aulger told the station. ?They couldn?t inhale or pass oxygen throughout the body, he was in essence, suffocating to death.?
That?s when Diane, who was eight months pregnant at the time, decided to give birth early, according to the station.
Mark was the first one to hold his new daughter Savannah.
?He got to be the first one to hold her, [and he] held her for 45 minutes,? Diane told the station.
Shortly after seeing the newest addition to the Aulger family, Mark went into a coma. He died five days later while holding Savannah in his arms, the station reports.
