HOT SPRINGS, Va. ? Former Duke golfer Brinson Paolini, 22, of Virginia Beach, Va., posted a 3 and 2 victory against collegian Ji Soo Park, 20, in last weekend?s scheduled 36-hole final at the 100th Virginia State Golf Association Amateur Championship at The Homestead?s Cascades Course.
Competing in his last VSGA Amateur for the foreseeable future before turning professional later this summer, Paolini became the second golfer to collect four titles in six years.
? CHAPEL HILL GOLFER SETS STANDARD: At Raleigh, Jonathan Jackson of Chapel Hill shot 8-under-par 64 to pace the 79-golfer field in Carolinas Amateur sectional qualifying Monday at Brier Creek Country Club.
Fourteen players advanced from the rain-delayed qualifier, needing 71 or better. The championship takes place next week at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
Jacob Haithcock of Burlington tied for 21st with a 73.
