Google feasts Julia Child on her 100th birthday

Julia Child's 100th birthday is celebrated on Google's homepage.

Julia Child would have celebrated her 100th birthday today, and for that, and all of her wonderful culinary accomplishments, the Internet sings her praise, most visibly in the form of a Google Doodle.

It's not like we've been waiting for a Julia resurgence ? the first and greatest TV chef has been in comeback mode since Julie Powell wrote the engaging "Julie and Julia," and these days, full seasons of "The French Chef," dating back to January 1, 1963, can be streamed from an Amazon Prime account.

But a click of Julia's Google Doodle?takes you to a birthday party la grande dame hopefully would have appreciated, with links to her biography, her channel on PBS Food and the exhibit of her kitchen at the Smithsonian, as well as a gallery of her books, and of course, many many pictures of her, including some with her beloved husband Paul.

I particularly love the Doodle itself, not just because it contains a wink to the culinary euphoric Pixar movie "Ratatouille," but that the eponymous dish from that film is very likely itself a wink to Ms. Child.

Aug. 15, 2012 would have been Julia Child's 100th birthday. Celebrity chefs talk to TODAY.com about how she paved the way for them and influenced the way Americans cook today.
