Travel show host Anthony Bourdain announced that he was leaving his long-time gig at Travel Channel for CNN back in May. His new show will hit the air in early 2013.So, his fans want to know ? why'd he leave the Travel Channel?
Adweek interviewed Bourdain and asked him that very question. Here's what he had to say:
"There are a lot of places where me and my team have been wanting to make television for a long time and haven?t been able to. And?CNN?has the infrastructure and inclination to make those places doable.
Getting to do a show in, for instance, Libya would have been very difficult. We have contacts all over the world, but you?ve got to get there.
When we finally got out of Beirut with my crew in 2006, an LCU [Landing Craft Utility, a ship for troop transport] comes in with the Marines and the door drops and the first person we see is [CNN correspondent] Barbara Starr?you know, they?re there. ... [Also], I like when the people who live in the places where we shoot are really happy afterward."

Mobile graphics are clearly setting the agenda at SIGGRAPH this year -- ARM's Mali T600-series parts have just been chased up by a new Khronos Group standard that will likely keep those future video cores well-fed. OpenGL ES 3.0 represents a big leap in textures, introducing "guaranteed support" for more advanced texture effects as well as a new version of ASTC compression that further shrinks texture footprints without a conspicuous visual hit. OpenVL is also coming to give augmented reality apps their own standard. Don't worry, desktop users still get some love through OpenGL 4.3: it adds the new ASTC tricks, new visual effects (think blur) and support for compute shaders without always needing to use OpenCL. All of the new standards promise a bright future in graphics for those living outside of Microsoft's Direct3D universe, although we'd advise being patient: there won't be a full Open GL ES 3.0 testing suite for as long as six months, and any next-generation phones or tablets will still need the graphics hardware to match.

Pakistani policemen suspended for parading people naked
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Four Pakistani policemen have been suspended after allegedly parading a man and two women naked in a town in the deeply conservative Muslim country, police officials said on Sunday.
It was unclear clear why the three were naked while being escorted to the police station in the southern town of Gambat on July 28.
The man, businessman Mumtaz Mallah, 52, told Reuters police were punishing him for refusing to pay him a bribe.
Irfan Baloch, a senior local police officer, said all three were part of a prostitution ring and authorities were responding to community pressure by arresting them.
The trio were already naked when police raided Mallah's home, he said.
"The main arresting police officer's mistake was that he should have covered them up," said Baloch.
Town residents took video footage of the arrests which shows Mallah trying to put clothes on.
Mallah has been released on bail. The two women are still in police custody, Baloch said.

Weinstein Co. to finance and distribute 'The Ends of the Earth'
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The Weinstein Company will finance and distribute "The Ends of the Earth" as a possible vehicle for "Hunger Games" star Jennifer Lawrence.
The true story centers on a powerful oil tycoon named Ernest Marland who loses everything after engaging in a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter. The screenplay was written by Chris Terrio, who also penned the upcoming Iranian Hostage Crisis drama "Argo."
No director has yet been assigned to the steamy-sounding project.
"I'm not sure that anything resonates more with an audience than a true story," Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of the studio, said in a statement. "Jennifer Lawrence shows the skill of a seasoned veteran in everything she does, and we're thrilled to work with her again."
Escape Artists will produce the film. Weinstein and Escape Artists made the deal based on the screenplay by Terrio.
Lawrence has had a packed schedule since her Oscar-nominated turn in 2010's "Winter's Bone" and her role as the bow-and-arrow wielding Katniss in "The Hunger Games." She will soon be seen in David O. Russell's comedy "The Silver Linings Playbook," and she will star in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and as the villainous Mystique in the sequel to "X-Men: First Class."
